The Oyster Perpetual Datejust 31 in 18 ct Everose gold with a chocolate-coloured diamond-set dial and a President bracelet.

Chocolate-coloured dial

Watchmaking techniques

The dial features diamonds set in 18K gold. Many of the Oyster dial models feature a sunray effect that reflects a subtle sheen. This effect requires a superior brushing technique to create an engraved pattern that extends outwards from the centre of the dial.

The light is dispersed along the notch, creating a subtle and unique effect that reveals different shines with the swing of the wrist. Once the sunray effect is completed, the dial is coloured by physical vapor deposition or electroplating, and then finished with a lacquer.

Fluted bezel

Characteristics of Rolex

The fluting pattern is the hallmark of the brand's watches. Originally, the fluting pattern of the Oyster bezel served a practical purpose, helping to screw the bezel into place on the case and ensure the watch's water-resistance.

The fluted design of the caseback is based on the same considerations, and is screwed down to the case with a specific Rolex tool. Subsequently, fluting evolved into an aesthetic design element that has become a signature Rolex signature. To this day, fluting is a hallmark of the brand's watches, and the bezel of the Datejust 31 is made of gold.

18-carat Everose gold

Exclusive patents

In order to preserve the beauty of its pink gold watches, Rolex created 18-carat Everose gold in its foundry and patented the pink alloy.

Since its introduction in 2005, 18-carat Everose gold has been used in the manufacture of the Rolex Oyster in pink gold.
